We are not your Superwoman

Women of color who are educational leaders should possess a special fitness and savvy that allows them to confront issues head on in a way that address problems of veiled racism, attempts to alienate, avoid, or deter, while remaining professional, approachable, and available.  Black female leaders can lend themselves to being agents of change with women, and other historically marginalized groups who face discrimination in the workplace that precludes their power to lead and have influence amongst stakeholders by opening up conversations in peer collaboration. The time is always right now, to make a change. The ultimate thing to do is challenge preexisting ideas, practices, and notions for the greatest good of our children and families whom we serve. Our job as educational leaders is to teach, to learn, and to serve while maintaining our dignity, wholeness, power, and humanity. We do so much and make it look easy. It is ok to take a breath, pause for a moment, and take care of you. We are here for you!
